Alexander Y. Ramenskiy

Alexander Y. Ramenskiy was born on the 14th March 1951 in Gorky (USSR), now Nizhny Novgorod (Russia). In 1973, he graduated from the Moscow State University of Mechanical Engineering (MAMI) with a Degree of Mechanical Engineer. Since 1976, he has been dealing with the problems of the application of the hydrogen technologies. Ramenskiy is an author of more than twenty patents and scientific studies in the field of hydrogen technologies. The USSR author’s certificate № 722018 “Composition for Hydrogen Accumulation” dated 22nd June 1978 is one of the first USSR and world patents in the field of the hydrogen storage in the metal hydrides. He participated in the development of the hydrogen cars which were tested in the Car Range of the NAMI (Central Scientific Research Automobile and Engine Institute) in 1979-1982. In 1982, Ramenskiy Alexander defended the PhD thesis in the field of the hydrogen applications for the vehicles. It was first PhD thesis in Russia on the research of the hydrogen applications as the fuel for the cars. In 1984, he was a delegate as the head of the laboratory of the Central Scientific Research Automobile and Engine Institute (NAMI) at the 5 World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC) in Toronto, and in 1988 at the 7 WHEC in Moscow. He has been working in the NAHE (National Association of Hydrogen Energy) as the executive Vice President since 2004. Several car models running on hydrogen, petrol and hydrogen fuel compositions were developed and tested under his guidance and with his direct involvement. The models were presented at the international exhibitions held within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in 2006-2007. In 2006, Dr. Ramenskiy was the Director of the Hydrogen Cars Motor Race held along the route Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan – Nizhnekamsk – Cheboksary – Moscow within the framework of the First World Congress “Alternative Energy and Ecology”. He was one of the initiators of the creation of the Technical Committee TC029 “Hydrogen Technologies” of the Federal Agency on Technical Regulation and Metrology (Rosstandart) in 2008. Since the founding of the TC029, he is its executive secretary in charge of the task of the harmonization of the national and the international standards in the field of the hydrogen technologies and fuel cells. Dr. Ramenskiy works actively as the representative of the NAHE and the Rosstandart in the Technical Committee TC 197 “Hydrogen technologies” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) specializing in the development of the international standards in the field of the hydrogen technologies.
