David Hart is a Director of E4tech, a Switzerland- and UK-based business consulting company specialising in sustainable energy, and a Visiting Professor at Imperial College London. David is responsible for E4tech's fuel cell and hydrogen energy practice, and has been working as a researcher, consultant and advisor on fuel cells and hydrogen energy for 20 years, leading and conducting projects in different industry sectors for governments, corporations and investors worldwide. A mechanical engineer with a PhD in Hydrogen Energy Systems from Imperial College, he set up and grew the first policy- and systems-focused hydrogen and fuel cell research group at Imperial, retaining an active research role there for 18 years. During his academic career he published widely, supervised many MSc and PhD students. He has reviewed research proposals for Japanese, Canadian and Netherlands organisations in addition to UK ones, as well as acting as reviewer for a wide range of academic journals.
He joined E4tech part-time as a Director in 2001 and now leads E4tech’s Lausanne office, but retains a strong link to the UK. Positions of responsibility include being a specialist representative for UK Government on the IPHE; a member of the Steering Committee for the London Hydrogen Partnership – advising the Deputy Mayor; and he is currently on the Advisory Board of the Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Supergen Hub, the main UK academic programme. David’s extensive experience on industry committees and boards includes the Investment Committee of Conduit Ventures (a VC focused on low carbon energy), and the Board of the UK’s Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, and he chairs the Grove Fuel Cell Symposium Steering Committee. He has been an invited presenter and chair at conferences on five continents.
