John W. Sheffield

Dr. Sheffield started his professional career as a Senior Analytical Engineer in the Scientific Analysis Group of Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, CT. Next he served as a Senior Experimental Engineer in the Advanced Energy Group of Pratt & Whitney in West Palm Beach, FL. In 1978, he accepted a post-doctoral position under Professor T. Nejat Veziroglu at the Clean Energy Research Center at the University of Miami. He also held a DOE summer fellowship at California Institute of Technology in 1980 prior to joining Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in September 1980. During his 32 year tenure in Missouri S&T, he has held numerous administrative positions including Interim Program Director for Business & Industry and Economic Development at the University of Missouri System and Director of the Institute of Public Service and Economic Development. In 2005, he served as one of the founding Associate Directors at the United Nations Industrial Development Organization – International Centre for Hydrogen Energy Technologies (UNIDO-ICHET). Upon his return to Missouri S&T in 2006, he served as the champion of an energy initiative to create what is now known as the Missouri S&T E3 Commons (Energy, the Environment and Education) which includes Missouri’s first Hydrogen Fueling Station, the Missouri S&T EcoCAR Hydrogen Fuel Cell Garage, and a Renewable Energy Transit Depot.
